The Story Behind Marv Herzog Hotel

Sometimes a friendship happens where there is mutual respect and admiration. Such was the friendship of Marv Herzog, a musician/bandleader from Frankenmuth, Michigan, and Bob Drury, a hotel builder from Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Our history through the years

1989

Bob and Ann Drury met Marv and Teresa Herzog in 1989 at a winter dance at the Lodge of the Four Seasons Resort in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. An instant friendship developed.

1991

In 1991, Marv convinced Bob to visit Frankenmuth in August for the Summer Music Fest.

1995

By the end of the week, Bob had decided to build a Drury Inn in the most visited small city in Michigan. In 1995, it became a reality. Bob and Ann began to sponsor dances in their area and travel to where Marv and his band performed in other parts of the United States. They also traveled to Europe with Marv and Teresa. The friendship continued to grow.

2002

Marv Herzog passed away on December 12, 2002. Bob continued to visit Frankenmuth during the Summer Music Fest in August.

2004

After the festival in 2004, Bob called Teresa and mentioned he planned to build another hotel in Frankenmuth with Marv's name on it. He wanted a lasting memorial to a man who was Frankenmuth's Goodwill Ambassador for over 40 years.

2007

Teresa found the site, a piece of property along Main Street that was alsoon the Cass River, and the Marv Herzog Hotel opened on May 31, 2007.
